In the old testament, there are so many rules that God made. Like in the book of Leviticus. Chapter after chapter of rules, dont eat this, dont touch unclean things, dont think these thoughts. And then there are all these rituals you have to do to "cleanse" yourself if you do something wrong. Just an example of what i mean; the bible says you cant eat pork because it is unclean. If i eat pork, choke on it, and didnt get a chance to ask for forgiveness before I die, will i go to hell because of it?
I am not looking for confrontation regarding the validity of the bible; I believe in it, was raised in it. I just have never known, how do i distinguish which laws are as pertinent today as they were back then?
BTW, I know, all laws regarding sacrificing are moot, because Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice.
I have also always heard that the bible was written by men and has been editied and changed so much that who knows what in it is really from God and how much is just the word of man. But what can you do? I fear eternal damnation, I have to take the bible as my guide.
Thank you all for your insights, i do greatly appreciate it.
So many different points of view…I was raised Chrisitan, but since i was forced to go to church 5 out of 7 days of the week since i was 8, I strayed once I left home. Now, I am trying to learn on my own. I live in Germany, and finding a good church, not just a military chapel, is near impossible. I do thank you all for taking the time to read and answer. God Bless you all.
There were many laws to follow strictly, to the letter, but this was done to separate themselves from the pagan practices around the Israelites to set them apart from the rest of the nations. Jehovah wanted everyone to know that they were His people and that they did not follow the pagan practices of the other nations, nor did they form marriage alliances with them (Deut 7:1-4).
If you recall, though, the nation of Israel turned away from following the true God, Jehovah, and he took his spirit from them and allowed them to be killed, or captured and enslaved by powerful armies, twice – 607 B.C.E. and 70 C.E. (2 Kings 25; 2 Chron 36; historical data of 70 C.E.)
This was showing that God had taken his blessing away from Israel and he made a New Covenant, one with a spiritual nation and with his son, who was able to cleanse mankind so that they could approach Jehovah God in prayer and get forgiveness of past sins (Matt 6:9-14; Heb 9:22; Col 1:14). It is only by means of Christ Jesus that we can gain favor in Jehovah God’s eyes, again, so this is why his death was so important (Acts 10:43; Heb 10:18). After the sacrificial death of Jesus, mankind was "cleansed," by his blood and so this took the Old Law, the Mosaic Law, and voided it, if you will, and thus began a New one (Isa 53:12; 1 Pet 2:24; Col 2:14). Since we had all sinned by means of Adam (Rom 5:12), a perfect man, then we needed to have the blood, or life, of another perfect man take his place, as a ransom, and the only one qualified for this was, God’s son. But Jesus was raised up and he resides in heaven with God (Matt 16:21; 1 Cor 15:4; Phil 2:9; Acts 2:33).
I understand what Purgatory is and what it does.
This is my question: When we die, we all have to stand before God, regardless of our ultimate destination (Heaven or Hell) If someone is going to be judged for Hell, and has to stand before the throne of God, does that person have to get cleansed first as well to even get in the presence of God to get judged?
Sidenote: This is not a debate on whether or not purgatory is real OR whether or not Hell is real. This is a question for Catholics about the unsaved and purgatory. Thanks all!
Everyone in purgatory is on their way to heaven.
Are you perfect now? Most people would say no.
Will you be perfect in heaven? Most people believe yes.
Purgatory (or purgation) is the process of God’s love changing our imperfect selves into perfect beings.
Depending on the amount of change needed by different people this can be an easy or slightly harder process.
I don’t think Mother Teresa of Calcutta had a very hard time of it.

With love in Christ.
Lol i was bored and while listening to a song i typed this up:
brave soldier, dont be scared
hell is the ultimate reward
an ultimate death to consciousness
forever bliss, cease to exist
prepare for the assault
to protect all that is real
transcendent laws of logic
die in happiness,
for the world you left behind,
has begun the cleansing
DESCEND TO HELL
DESCEND TO HELL
DESCEND TO HELL
DESCEND TO HELL
join the Godless cause
the final cause, unavenged it shall be
we walk with satan to the final death
we will never bow down
we are forever AT WAR WITH GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not bad at all! I like the soldier/war imagery, it carries the main idea of the song well through to the end "WAR WITH GOD". One suggestion for you, the line "an ultimate death to consciousness", perhaps try "an ultimate end to consciousness". Just my opinion, I like the way it sounds better. It is more final, and you have the hard "d" sound at the end of the word. Good luck to you

Is Islam a religion that works in line with God’s revelation to Moses and the prophets? They believe that to get right with God man needs a sacrifice, and that human works are of no help in cleansing us from sin. Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice who takes away sin.Real submission to God to accept Jesus. Good works cannot save a man or woman.
Well sacrifice was never a prerequisite to be forgiven in Judaism, so that idea doesn’t make sense to some people. Good works and a kind heart could also help people get to heaven, since heaven is the home of the soul, and upon death the soul returns to its home.
Perhaps the main difference between Protestants and Jews is that in Judaism, man is inherently good and goes to his home in heaven. In Protestantism, man is evil immediately because of what Adam did, so even if the only sin a man did was steal a toothpick- that deserves eternal torture in a lake of fire in hell.
The idea between the faiths of what God intends for us is very different indeed.
Well i know to look at the Nutrition Facts but i have seen like carrots they contain some fat which they don’t list on the Nutrition Facts cause i guess is under 1 gram, and I’m not suppose to eat fat at all. So what foods or fruits or veggies contain no fat at all?
This really doesn’t make any sense. Almost all foods contain some sort of fat, even if it’s minor. Ever wonder where they get vegetable oil from? Crushed vegetables have fat (oil).
I’m not sure about this, but the only vegetable I can think of that might be fat-free is celery? Check out the nutrition facts for celery…
But the other person is right, you can’t do that… these "cleansing" things are dumb as hell, they’re meant for gullible people. You aren’t gullible, come on, smarten up.
God is described as being all powerful, all seeing, all knowing. He is the ultimate being and is greater than everyone in any way imaginable.
I have a few religious friends and they tell me that he cannot be around sin, which is why people who do not accept Jesus (who would cleanse them of their sins) go to hell – even though we know that apparently God LOVES US AND WOULD NEVER WANT HARM ON US.
Ok, so if God has to live by this rule where he can’t be around sins, he’s not exactly the head Honcho, is he?
And while we’re at that note, if God apparently loves us, why does he allow the creation of those who live only to hurt others? If he’s all-knowing, he would have saw this from a light-year away and stopped it.
Or maybe God is above "Logic" and what makes sense for him is to be a hypocrite.
What are the point of Midgets? Do you think God finds them hilarious also?
I am the Lord and there is no one else; there is no ther God beside me. Isaiah 45:5.
Because you are not "Born Again" of the spirit of God, you have God’s wrath abiding on you. Jesus said,"Ye must be born again." until that happens, you are not a child of God. Not until you realize that you are a sinner and cannot save yourself from Hell. I am sorry to tell you this, but if you die today without Christ Hell is here you will wake up. There is no hope for anyone who dies without Jesus whether you believe it or not. It’s the Gospel truth.
Edit: Jesus said, "He who believes in the son hath life, but he who rejects the son will not see life for God’s wrath abides on him."
He who believes in the son is not condemned, but he who believes NOT is condemned already for he hath not believed on the only begotten son of God.
